bloodseal_soul Family above all others	Alphonse is Ed's reason for survival. No joke. In Ed's past, his dad left him without a word. Then Winry's parents left, and then Mom died. People who are important to Ed left him. In turn, he somewhat regrets leaving Winry like everyone's left him, but Al needed help and Ed's the only one who could help him. He'll die before he lets Al leave him. Thus the basis for sacrificing his arm, going through hell and back to restore Al's body, enduring the automail. He doesn't want to leave Alphonse to his fate like so many other people seem to have done to them. While he's mostly come to terms with his own regrets and shortcomings, it's still apparent that he feels bad about the past. He indulges his little brother in all the cuddles and hugs that Al wants, but the reasoning is two fold: Al's the only person to have accepted Ed for who and what he is, and understands the kinds of sacrifices that Ed has made for their survival. Al's very nature reminds Ed that he's still human and not some 'war dog' or an experiment that can be tweaked upon at any given time. He's not something to be presented like a science project, and while he'll always have automail and his alchemy genius, to Alphonse, Ed is just his brother.
notamageiswear Friend/family	NEGI! Ed's other little brother (so to speak.) Ed was a bit apprehensive and protective of Alphonse in the beginning where Negi was involved. After hearing all the trouble Al's gotten into on Adstring, Ed was appropriately defensive. But over time, Negi's proven to be a really good friend, and good for Alphonse as well. Ed sees this and he doesn't mind. The fact that Ed considers Negi family now is a Big Thing. Ed has acquaintences and even fewer friends. To consider someone non-blood as family is the highest compliment someone can get from him, hands down.
' lastsonofgilead Friend	Roland Deschain of Gilead He's a new comer to Adstringendum, and one of the few people who have a good head on their shoulders and doesn't think it's a 'neat game' to tease Ed about his height. That was probably the first thing that attracted Ed to this guy, and the second thing was the fact that Roland was treating him like an adult instead of a kid. He thinks of Roland as a comrade because of their fates in their home worlds and is very willing to help him out of any sticky situations.
endureandwait Friend/love/family	"I'd rather have her furious than crying." That pretty much sums up Ed's thoughts. Winry's been a friend since childhood. With Alphonse, they were the three musketeers. Somewhere, along the way that close knit group had to part ways, but never would they stop being friends. Selfishly, Ed wanted a safe place to go home to when it was all said and done. He didn't want Winry to know what dangers he and Al were in, and what risks they had to take. If anything, he didn't want her to go through the same nightmares that he suffered, worry about the fate of the country that he was eventually forced to worry about. Winry was more than happy to barge in, wheedle her way around, and otherwise made certain she was a force in his life, whether he liked it or not. Somewhere along the line, she became more than a sister and a best friend. When she returned to Adstring and basically called Ed a prankster for saying that they were dating on that backwards world, it was as if his heart had be torn out. He knew that she wouldn't remember, she came from a slightly different time, and had to struggle with accepting the fact that people knew about her here, but that didn't make things any easier. When and if she finally comes around, he's still not certain what he'll do or say. Even though he's a crass bastard, there are just some lines he never wants to cross.
