You're right, his tempered has spiked and it has been recent. Since Rachel's death, he hasn't been in the best frame of mind. I'm not certain how closely the plot was followed, but after her death, the rest of the Glee kids had moved out. Then they came crawling back in, and he wasn't happy with that either. So far, there hasn't been any closure on that. The thought of people here living with him thinking he's basically a ticking time bomb and not having it talked out is eating at him a little.

In addition, with the tombstone event, he 'lived' through Nina dying. Aka, exploding on top of him. There's a bit of PTSD going on there, too. He'll start mellowing out again in the next week or so, basically when this prom event is supposed to happen.

And please don't fret, he's not being an ass to everyone. He's been pretty level during his foot stuck in a trap post, and his grumpiness towards Puck is the same sort of grumpiness he shows towards all the Glee kids when they arrive. More than likely, they're going to live at his place and he has to worry about their safety as well.
